Litterless Luke
Since meeting Luke MacDonald in the summer of 2019, we have been impressed by his passion for litter removal while running, also known as plogging. This passion has resulted in Luke removing hundreds of pounds of litter from our province, making him a true ‘Litter Hero’! In honour of Luke, we developed our superhero ‘Litterless Luke,’ and we hope you enjoy his enthusiasm as much as we do!
Wendy Helping Wildlife
Litter is an eyesore, poses health risks, affects water quality, and is often mistaken as food by wildlife. After a cleanup, our province benefits in many different ways; instantly, the appearance of the province improves, the environment is aided, tourism is strengthened, and wildlife’s attraction to roadways is reduced. Reducing wildlife attraction to roadways is essential and reduces the number of motor vehicle versus wildlife collisions, which affect not only wildlife but the vehicle occupants as well. This is one reason why we do what we do!
Suzy Saving our Shorelines
It is a commonly agreed-upon fact that over 80% of ocean debris and litter originates on land. This means that land-based litter cleanups help to reduce the amount of waste in our oceans and waterways. Due to ocean waste and debris, we now have microplastics in our waterways, which have entered our food chain and continue to harm wildlife and marine animals. By promoting and assisting with land-based cleanups, we can help mitigate these issues, and this is yet another reason we do what we do!
